Tinker Shoal
Diving
Tinker's shoal is a reef south of Plymouth Breakwater. Depending on the tide, you can use either East or West Tinker shoal buoys to drop down to the bottom. There are gullies which have quite a lot of kelp growth on them. However if you are prepared to grub in the gullies then there are still a few objects to be found.
One lucky diver came across nice ornately decorated bronze signal cannon and there are clay pipes and other things that have been discarded or lost over the centuries to look for. A good spot to dive are the margins where rock meets sand. This seems to concentrate items washed out of the sound and makes for an interesting rummage dive.
Always use an SMB on this site as wind conditions sometimes make it difficult for the skipper to keep tabs of the diver’s whereabouts.
